Do you eat weirdly?

March 18, 20242 min read

One of my clients asked me this week "do I eat normally?"

You see her friend had commented that she thinks she doesn't eat like a normal person because she doesn't eat a sandwich at lunch eye roll here

My response was "respectfully, your friend needs to wind her neck in"

Now don't get me wrong, we're all entitled to our own opinion

And you don't have to agree with me

But for a lot of you, a sandwich for lunch isn't the greatest choice

(ofc I'm not going to tell you not to have one because over here there are no right v wrong choices)

Especially when you're pursuing fat loss, a sandwich has the potential to be low in nutrients, high in calories and not particularly filling

Unless you have a whole pack of ham or a shite tonne of chicken in it anyway

Does that mean you shouldn't have one? No

But does it mean that you might want to make a different choice, to make your fat loss goals easier to hit? Probably

A typical woman might be on 1600 cals a day for fat loss

A sandwich can easily rack up 500-600 calories depending on the contents

Is it going to fill you up for as long as a banging salad with chicken, potatoes + plenty of salad-y bits? Honestly, probably not

Story time:

Way back in 2012-2014 when I worked for Lancaster University, and later, The Union at MMU my lunches were frequently a hot topic of discussion

Because I ate some form of salad every single day. But not like boring limp lettuce.. it could have mango, apple, mange tout, sugar snap peas, spinach, pomegranate seeds, cheese, chicken.. you name it, basically anything was in it

I loved it, it filled me up + lunch was a genuine joy

But because it wasn't a ham sandwich and a packet of crisps I was thought of as weird

And if that makes me weird, I'm okay with it

I mean, I am a lil bit weird..

And if you're reading this, you don't want to be average, you don't want to settle

You're here because you want to change something

So maybe we should all embrace our weird a lil more?

After all, if weird is making a more nutrient dense choice that fills you up, keeps you satisfied and stops you raiding the office snack drawer.. You keep being weird

After all, it's your body and your choiuce

Okay?

If you do one thing this weekend, stand firm on your nutrition choices if they work for you. Nobody else needs to agree and that's absolutely fine
