When it comes to fat loss, this is one of the biggest mindset shifts you need...
The all or nothing approach is one of the BIGGEST things that is stopping you from losing body fat
It’s great that you’re a perfectionist at work
There are some careers that depend on that being your number one trait
But in health + fitness and especially fat loss
It’s one of the biggest barriers to progress..
Yes, you have to put the work in
You have to direct enough of your attention to create a calorie deficit
But there’s no invisible line that takes you from “fat loss” to “no fat loss”
Your energy expenditure fluctuates daily
It’s normal that your calorie intake will fluctuate a lil too
Splitting hairs over 10, 20, 50 calories in the long run is a waste of time
If your maintenance calories are ~2000 then anything under that is a deficit
If some days you’re at 1500 calories, fkn AMAZING – you’re in a 500 cal deficit
But 1700 calories is still a deficit
So’s 1900
But the problem is you eat 1800 calories and think “fuck it, I’ve blown it, I might as well eat another bar of chocolate”
THIS RIGHT HERE is why you’re not losing fat
If you accept that some days you’ll be down the bottom end of your calories, and some days you might be at the higher end you will start to relax about the whole damn thing
You don’t need me to tell you that your progress will be a lot slower at 1900 than 1500 butttt knowing you can have that flexibility is key to better results
This is why I give my clients calorie ranges
I give them activity target ranges
Because there is no one single number that “works”
And that’s one of the most powerful things you can take into your fat loss journey
I know it’s easier to read this than it is to understand it
And the difference between knowing and doing is where coaching comes in
If you need more support, this is what I do!
